Reuniting Families Act
In September 2008, Senator Menendez (D-NJ) introduced a bill entitled Reuniting Families Act (S.3511), which aims at promoting family unity among immigrant families. Representative Honda (D-CA) introduced a companion Bill (H.R. 6938) in the House. The proposed bill would:
- Recapture immigrant visas;
- Reclassify the spouses and minor children of lawful permanent residents as immediate relatives;
- Address country limitations and long backlogs;
- Increase government discretion and flexibility in addressing hardships caused by provisions that bar individuals who are unlawfully present in the United States.
Please contact your Senator or House Representative and request that they support the proposed Bill.
